Vanuatu Red Cross Society’s annual gala night took place on Saturday 31st October at Warwick Le Lagon Resort in Port Vila. Proceeds raised from the ‘Bollywood’ themed fundraiser will go towards Red Cross’s El Nino response, in particular towards the purchase of two portable desalination units, which will help affected communities across Vanuatu to access potable drinking water.
During the evening’s opening address, CEO of Vanuatu Red Cross Society, Jacqueline De Gaillande said “I’d like to thank you all for the contribution you are making to our El Nino response and for your overall support of our work. As an auxiliary to the government we are dependent on the generosity of others to exercise our mandate to help the most vulnerable communities in Vanuatu. Your support is greatly assisting us in fulfilling this mission and for that we are extremely grateful”.
Over the course of the evening, around 140 guests including representatives from various Port Vila based organisations enjoyed an array of Indian foods and were entertained by a variety of Bollywood-style dance performances and music. The evening’s sponsors Unity Airlines, Warwick Le Lagon, Vila Distribution, ICRC and Sun Productions played a substantial role in the evening’s success, as did Bred Bank who made a generous donation of one million vatu towards the El Nino response.
